Joanne & Reuben

The Love Story
Honestly, we were kind of set-up by my buddies. When Joanne was at an audio workshop, my ‘buddies’ who were there check her out for me and decided that she was the kind of girl I like. The lady boss of that workshop introduced us via SMS. Soon, the first date was arranged. Initially the date was supposedly to be a group dinner but it turned out that only Joanne and I were the attendees. After that, the rest was history!

At what point did you realize you were in love?
There was no exact date or moment to define the feeling we have for one another as things just happened naturally. Everything just fell into place! Guess you can say that the moon and the stars aligned and fate brought us together as a loving couple.

How did you know that she/he is ‘The One’?
Joanne: There is no rocket science to this. You just know when the time comes and that you have found that special someone whom you will spend the rest of your life with!

Reuben: I guess it’s because she fits the best ideal girl picture in my mind. We share similar hobbies and interests with much aligned thinking and opinions. But of course we do sometimes agree to disagree on things we do not look at the same way. I spend most of my time away in Singapore as I work there and Joanne is able to accept it. She is someone who is open minded and understands the airline culture and lifestyle which is not something all spouses can understand.

The proposal
Initially, Reuben’s close friends and I planned a surprised birthday party for him. It was pretty hilarious when we look back as half of the surprise was actually leaked out due to my poor acting skills! But the party went on smoothly until the restaurant team came out with lovely candles when it was time to cut the birthday cake. Reuben had in fact, a plan of his own and went down on his knees after emerging from behind the team. Everyone thought he slipped and fell and went to give him a hand but backed off and said “Joanne, this is your deal”. From that moment, I knew Reuben was proposing to me on the very same event!

What have you learned from each other?
Joanne: We are two individuals from different backgrounds and up-bringing. Talking and discussing things out and then compromise is very important in a relationship.

What are your advice to couples who are about to marry?
Marriage is just the beginning of a life long journey with your loved one. We will be lying to you if we were to say that everything will always be rosy. It would not be a ‘Happily Ever After’ marriage if you do not embrace each other’s differences and learn a thing or two from one another. Sometimes, bumpy rides are good spices in life. The fundamental thing about marriage is to communicate and compromise with each other.

Caroline & Parwaiz

The Love Story
It was not a typical love at first sight story for us as we were not particularly interested with each other when we first met – what more to have a relationship or even a marriage! But hey, that is how the best stories always begin. Things started to change its course after our few coincidental meetings here and there. In October 2008, I knew Parwaiz had fallen in love with me as he has been avoiding me for six weeks! One week later we met again and from that moment onwards, I knew HE IS THE ONE to be with. Once started as strangers had eventually turned into friends and now we are officially husband and wife!

The Proposal
After a romantic weekend getaway in Penang, feeling weary and sunburned, Parwaiz proposed to me at an Italian restaurant Cipolla in Bangsar. At that moment when he fell on his knee and proposed to me, I immediately say I DO before he could even finish what he was supposed to say!

Moments to Treasure
We enjoy every single moment we have together doing something extra special by venturing into stuffs we have not done before!

The Rings
DeGem platinum and classic rings engraved with “The Union of Two Souls”.

The Most Important Element of a Wedding
THE COUPLE. Besides this was the personal vows that we have during the ceremony. We had a small but wonderful group of guests but I believe you do not need 1000 people to have a dream wedding! All you need is a loving couple, caring families and close friends. But of course, all that matters was MY HUSBAND AND I!

Personal advices to couples who are to marry
Do not over plan! Take care and make time for yourselves. You are more important than anything else as you are the reason why the marriage will be. Ensure that you spend time (as a couple) with one another. Do not get overboard with your preparations and try not to have too many people to interfere. It is your wedding and you need to be happy with it!

Biggest challenge to plan for a wedding
Waiting for the RSVP’s can be quite a challenge. Food tasting, dress picking, location finding was all an adventure but all this are easy as long as you know what you want for your dream wedding to come true!

Charlene & Maz

The Love Story:
We got to know each other at a university in Perth through a mutual friend and were assigned to a group for an assignment. From that day on, we kept in touch and our path occasionally crossed. Our relationship gradually grew in the same direction and we are very happy to have found one another. We have been living together for about 5 years before that and we managed to “put up” with each other, making our relationship stronger than ever.

The Rings
Our rings are from Tiffany & Co.
Hers       : Elsa Peretti curved band with diamonds in platinum.
His          : Lucida platinum band with a single diamond.

Most enjoyable moment of the wedding
We enjoyed the entire day as we were treated as the King and Queen of the day! It made us feel really special. Our florist did the most fantastic job with the decor and we were really pleased with our photography session.

The most important element in a wedding
The friends and family that you share your wedding with and not forgetting to take pleasure of being together as husband and wife!

Advices to couples who are about to marry
Plan ahead, prepare early and make sure the bridal party knows exactly what to do for the wedding. Do not let planning interfere your relationship and let everyone else do the stressing for you!

The biggest challenge to overcome when planning a wedding
Couples living overseas have the biggest hurdle. A lot of coordination needs to be done via email. Apart from that, trying to keep the peace is probably the next challenge!

Amangiri by Amanresorts

A HAVEN IN THE DESERT

AmanGiriFullshotEvening0000

Amidst the starkly beautiful desert scenery of Utah’s canyon country and home for centuries to the native Navajo and Hopi tribes, Amangiri, meaning ‘peaceful mountain’ promises to provide guests unrivalled levels of comfort as well as unprecedented access to the region’s geographic, historic and cultural marvels.

Located close to the border with Arizona in Canyon Point, Southern Utah, Amangiri is tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views over colourful, stratified rock towards the Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument. Just a 25-minute drive from the nearest town of Page, Arizona and a 15-minute drive to the shores of Lake Powell, Amangiri is ideally placed for day trips to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Colorado River and Bryce and Zion National Parks.

The resort’s setting is breathtaking. Amangiri is cradled by massive 200-million-year-old mesas and rock formations that present extraordinary desert vistas – dusted pink and ash at sunrise, various shades of gold throughout the day and a medley of spectacular rose hues at sunset. Located some 4,000 feet above sea level, the region’s arid conditions support unique desert vegetation. The ecosystem surrounding Amangiri encompasses a remarkable diversity of plants and animal species. The region is home to a variety of endangered species, including the California condor, and fossils dating back more than 160 million years attest to the area’s wealth of dinosaurs in the distant past.

Set on a 243-hectare (600-acre) expanse of wilderness, Amangiri is reached via a winding road that descends into the valley and leads to the resort’s central Pavilion. Designed to blend into the landscape with natural materials and textures featured, Amangiri provides an intimate setting from which to appreciate the resort’s majestic surroundings. 34 guest suites and the 2,322-square metre (25,000-square feet) Aman Spa are housed in two elegant wings which extend north and south from the Pavilion. With white stone floors and concrete walls that reflect the colours of the American Southwest, each suite has uninterrupted panoramic views of the desert and features a private entrance courtyard, a combined bedroom and living area, a sky-lit dressing room, a roomy bathroom with views from the sunken bath tub and a desert lounge with central fireplace. Pool Suites, Terrace Pool Suites and the Girijaala and Amangiri Suites also offer private pools and secluded outdoor sky terraces, ideal both for daytime relaxation and night-time star gazing.

horizontal-bar-1

The centrepiece of Amangiri is the Pavilion which is reached via flights of wide, gentle steps. Its desert-coloured stone and concrete is counterpointed by splashes of scarlet tenting: red is the traditional colour of celebration for the Navajo.  With dramatic views of rock formations and the desert to one side, and panoramic views of the surrounding plateaus to the other, the Pavilion houses the Living Room (three spacious alcoves with fireplaces, cosy seating and incredible views), the Gallery (showcasing the region’s best art, jewellery and handicrafts), the Library and the Dining Room. Through floor-to-ceiling glass doors the Dining Room leads onto the pool terrace which overlooks the swimming pool. Set in a sunken courtyard, the pool wraps around a giant outcrop of rock and finishes with a hot tub which sits at the base of a rock wall.

horiztonal-bar

The cuisine at Amangiri reflects the resort’s relaxed nature. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Dining Room’s focal point is to open kitchen with its wood-fired oven. This traditional cooking technique imparts a unique flavour and rustic authenticity to Amangiri’s cuisine, which emphasizes locally-sourced, seasonal produce. Dishes are served directly from the oven and some are finished at the table, while guests are invited to interact and even learn from the chefs. Situated within the Dining Room are the Private Dining Room and the Cellar. The private dining room seats 10 and its large wooden doors can be closed for privacy or open to the kitchen. The open-to-browse wine room has state-of-the-art climate control, space for 900 bottles and the technology to serve even the finest vintages by the glass.

A001

Amangiri’s Aman Spa is a destination unto itself, providing a serene setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. A vast complex of stone, water features and streams of light, it offers a number of unique treatment venues. The Water Pavilion offers hydrotherapy treatments, while the Floatation Pavilion offers colour therapy-enhanced floatation treatment. The Aman Spa also provides both indoor and outdoor pools and treatment rooms, and generous spaces for exercise, yoga and Amanresort’s unique Pilates assessment.

cover

The design of Amangiri is inspired by the natural elements of wind, water, earth and fire. Shafts of sunlight stream into the resort’s interiors through panoramic windows and strategically placed skylights. The sound of water is a soothing constant in the Pavilion, as in the surrounding slot canyons. The resort features more than 50 indoor and outdoor fireplaces – throughout the Pavilion and the Aman Spa, in every suite, around the pool and in outdoor entertainment areas.  At night, Amangiri’s exteriors are subtly lit so as not to compromise the vast star-filled night sky as nature intended. The Desert Lounge beyond the Pavilion is an open-air living room and the ideal venue for star-gazing.

GETTING TO AMANGIRI

map

Amangiri is a 25-minute drive from Page Municipal Airport, Arizona, served by Great Lakes Airways’ direct flights from Denver and Phoenix. The airport has full service facilities for charter and private aircraft. By road, the resort is a 4-hour drive from Phoenix, 5 hours from Las Vegas and 6 hours from Salt Lake City.

Amanresorts was founded by Adrian Zecha who envisioned a collection of intimate retreats in beautiful surrounds with the unassuming, warm hospitality of a gracious private residence. The first resort, Amanpuri (place of peace) in Phuket, Thailand, introduced the concept, and since then, Amanresorts has grown to encompass 23 resorts located in Bhutan, Cambodia, China, France, French Polynesia, Indonesia, India, Laos, Montenegro, Morocco, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Turks & Caicos Islands and the USA.

Elvira & Kevin

The love story: It was love at first sight for me when we saw each other for a work related meeting but Elvira took some time to convince. I gave her my mobile number but she only offered her office number. Later, she called me regarding work and I mustered enough courage to ask her out. We continued dating for two years before I proposed.
The proposal: Actually Elvira wanted to propose to me first! She planned it by booking a beautifully decorated room with red roses and scented candles at Hilton KL. But I got wind of her plans and quickly bought the diamond ring, and before she could do anything, got down on my knees and asked her to marry me. She was so stunned that she totally forgot what she was supposed to do! Once she caught her breath, it was her turn to propose to me.

The wedding theme: Our dinner reception theme was ‘Fairytale Wedding’ and Elvira had a blast doing up the place in pink and white. We had candelabras with flowers at the foyer and a huge floral arch at the entrance. We draped the walls white and laid out white carpets and hung loads of lighted floral balls and scallops from the ceiling. The backdrop was a huge castle and we custom built two grand staircases for us to enter. The garden party had a green and white theme with lots of flowers and, even had a two projection screens for our guests to watch the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

The venue: Church ceremony was held at the Assumption Church in PJ, while the tea ceremony, garden party and dinner reception were held at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel.
The rings: Platinum rings from Diamonds & Platinum.
The wedding dresses: all by Pretty In White. Elvira was dressed in a tube gown with lots of lace, beads and crystals embellishment for the church ceremony, a kua for the tea ceremony, a halter-neck dress with green beads, lace and crystals for the garden party and, a pink gown for the dinner reception.
The groom’s suit: Kevin wore a suit with red cravat and vest for the church ceremony, a Chinese man’s kua for the tea ceremony, suit with cravat and vest for the garden party and a tuxedo for the dinner reception.
Moments to treasure: It has to be the point we finally exchanged our sacred vows. I was so nervous and sweating while Elvira later told me she felt her hair stand on its end. It was a magical moment that changed our whole life.

Diamond & Platinum Celebrates Showroom Re-opening and 10th Birthday

Diamond & Platinum today celebrated the re-opening of its showroom in Mid Valley Megamall after a brief renovation. The showroom in Megamall was Diamond & Platinum’s first outlet in a shopping mall, and so, was also a befitting location for the jewellery brand to announce its 10th Birthday celebration with the tagline “10 Years From the Heart.”

Apart from the Megamall showroom, Diamond & Platinum also has 11 showrooms nationwide, as well as one showroom in Brunei.

A household name when it comes to platinum and white gold, the brand began 10 years ago as a means to fill a gap in the jewellery market targeted for young adults between 18 to 35 years of age looking for unique yet timeless pieces at a time when other jewellers were selling jewellery only in yellow gold.

To the brand, finding the perfect diamond is a lot like love – you don’t choose it, but it chooses you. And truly, that is what Diamond & Platinum is all about – finding love, and celebrating it. It could be in the shape of a beautiful solitaire diamond ring, or that perfect heart-shaped pendant, love has been the inspiration behind each and every exquisitely crafted piece.

Today, Diamond & Platinum offer dazzling and versatile pieces for every occasion – for weddings, engagements, anniversaries, as a romantic gesture – or just for fun.

The jewel in its crown is the Estrella diamond. Named after the Spanish word for star, it is beautifully crafted, immaculately cut, and has amazing brilliance and sparkle. The perfect diamond, it’s been a bestseller since it was first launched, for all these reasons.

As the brand moves forward to set new trends, raise the bar on quality and create bold, beautiful jewellery, many of its customers that have grown with it. Diamond & Platinum has also chosen this occasion to honour four very special customers who were there from the very beginning. We are glad to share their beautiful stories here.

Enduring Commitment
Life stage may change but commitment is forever.

dp-00147-182All couples know that happy ever afters only happen in fairy tales. Making relationships work takes hard work and commitment. The most successful relationships are ones built on commitment and compromise. Janice Khoo is a young mother who also works with her husband in a family-owned business. “It’s easy to end up doing everything for your children, and it’s also easy to give your time to everyone so you have none left for yourself.” To rejuvenate and relax she ensures that she makes enough time for herself and her husband. “I love travelling, trying new things, and good food, my husband and I make it a point to go out without the children now and again, so we can just be together.” She laughs, “It’s almost like going on a date.”

Jocylyn Sau, a 24-year-old chef is planning her wedding, which will take place later this year. She’s spent quite a bit of time learning the art of compromise while choosing her wedding jewellery with her soon to be husband Richin Chin. “If he doesn’t like something he will tell me, so I can choose something else,” she says, “In the end, we get something we both like.”

Both Janice and Jocylyn are lucky enough to have found men who are willing to shower them with diamonds. Maybe it’s because they both believe in sharing their thoughts with their partner. Jocylyn says she makes it a point to always tell Richin what she wants to do and seek his opinion. “Being older he has more experience about life, and people, so he always gives me good advice about the things I want to do.”

Janice buys diamond jewellery to reward herself when she thinks she has accomplished something. “My husband is very supportive about my decisions, so he has no reservations about giving me his credit card when I go shopping for something special. A strong relationship is built on trust. He knows I will make a good decision and won’t overspend.”

Maybe part of the trust is also because of their choice of diamond retailer, Diamond & Platinum, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year. Both Jocylyn and Janice are regular customers. Janice says, “The sales people understand what I am looking for, and always help me find what suits me best in terms of design and budget.”

dp-00020-182Jocylyn adds that she likes the choice and range of designs. She admits that she prefers classic pieces that are simple and suitable for every day wear. “There’s no point having jewellery that you just keep in the bank, I want to own pieces that I can wear every day, that suit my lifestyle and fashion-sense. Diamond & Platinum creates designs that are classic yet modern, so they go with everything. I even wear them to work, though I have to be careful not to lose them.”

Perhaps Richin Chin, Jocylyn’s soon-to-be-husband sums it up best, “When I consider getting something I look at its value. For example, when it comes to diamonds, I look at grade and colour- the practical aspects of why it is rare and valuable but I also look for the inner glow. For me life is about quality, trust and strong relationships. When you don’t compromise on these things, you can plan and build for the future, that’s why I choose Jocylyn. For me she has the right values and she’s beautiful inside and out, and that’s why she deserves Diamond & Platinum.”

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend
Young and romantic, driven career woman or sensible mother, no matter who you are, there’s a place in your life for diamonds.

dp-00101-182When asked to state her priorities in terms of family, career or shopping, Michelle Lee, laughs charmingly, and then says “I want it All!” This is a woman who believes she truly can have her cake and eat it. “I love beautiful things,” she says merrily “maybe that’s why I am in the beauty business.”

Soon to be married Jocylyn Sau loves dressing up. For her wearing jewellery is an important part of being well dressed. “There’s no point having jewellery that you just keep in the bank, I want to own pieces that I can wear every day, that suit my lifestyle and fashion-sense.

Janice Khoo is a wife, working woman and mother who has an unusual solution to boosting her confidence and moving effortlessly from one role to another. Diamonds! “They are so versatile. Whether you’re doing a business presentation or entertaining for the evening, you’re always appropriately dressed when you’re wearing diamonds. In fact you can go from one to the other and still look appropriately dressed.” she says.

All three are regular customers at Diamond & Platinum, which celebrates 10 years of putting the sparkle in the lives of Malaysian women in July this year. Michelle, who owns her own hair-dressing saloon, places a high value on quality and value. “I choose products for my own customers all the time. It’s important that they trust my choices; if I used inferior products and damaged their hair it would be a disaster! With Diamond & Platinum every piece I buy is certified, so I know exactly what I am getting and that it’s of a high quality. That’s very important to me because I also buy jewellery as a form of investment.” One of her most prized possessions is her 1-carat Estrella diamond ring. “This is the most precious piece of jewellery I own. It’s a “one in a million” diamond. I am also drawn by the amount of care taken in the cutting of the Estrella Diamond, it takes ten times to cut as long as an ordinary diamond so it is perfectly symmetrical for more brilliance and shine. With its platinum setting it really is a piece of perfection.”
Jocylyn adds that she likes the choice and range of designs. “Diamond & Platinum creates designs that are classic yet modern, so they go with everything. I even wear them to work, though I have to be careful not to lose them.” Janice agrees, “Diamond & Platinum has something for everyone, so you can get something small and cute which is very affordable, or really indulge in something magnificent which will become a family heirloom.”

Service is another reason all three women remain regular customers of Diamond & Platinum. Janice and Michelle agree that the sales people always understand what they am looking for, and always help them find what suits them best in terms of design and budget.”

All three ladies agree that being able to afford bigger and more elaborate pieces somehow validates their achievements. Jocylyn shyly admits that her soon-to-be-husband has already selected the jewellery he will present her with when she has their first child. Janice laughs as she points out that although ‘size does matter’, she has made it a point to educate herself about diamonds and learnt about grade, colour and cut. “You could say I’ve become more educated and discerning in my choices.”

Michelle thinks that although her tastes have changed over the years, one thing remains constant. “The size and value of the items I buy has increased but no matter how old or rich I get I think I will always able to find what I like at Diamond & Platinum.”

Ivo & Juni

The love story: We met during an educational workshop that created an environment for personal discovery. We even ended up doing some of the exercises together at the workshop. Guess, you can say fate brought us together.

The proposal: On a trip to Genting Highlands, we both decided to visit the pagoda along the way. After climbing the many flights of stairs at the pagoda, Ivo suddenly got onto his knees and proposed. He simply slipped the ring onto my finger. I was completely out of breath but couldn’t say no the man who completes my existence. After being together for three and half years, we decided it was time to become husband and wife.

The wedding theme: East meets West rustic charm with a touch of red and white.

The venue: Il Tempio at Tamarind Springs.

The rings: Unity rings from TSL Jewellery.

The wedding dresses: Three gowns – a floral bridal dress, a red evening dress and a personally designed Italian lace evening gown.

Moments to treasure: For Ivo, the moment Juni walked down the aisle to meet him carrying the umbrella designed by herself was a beautiful and unforgettable moment. As she walked, there were three couples showering the path with rose petals. Later, the couple released a pair of white pigeons together and danced for the first time as husband and wife.

Juni & Ivo Cicolini’s Dream Team: The bride organised and coordinated everything.

Simplicity and Elegance (apple green + ivory)

Simplicity and Elegance through blending lighter shades of natural colors.

The classic ivory donned by the bride accompanied by pastel apple green of the bridesmaids to create a lively and refreshing theme. Lightness of apple green simply enhances the uniqueness of the organdy wedding gown, without overpowering the gentleness of ivory white. The decors and cakes were of natural’s shades of milky white with subtle pastel green highlights to complete the theme.

Angela & Andrew

The love story: Andrew and I met during high school and we knew each other for about 12 years prior to our marriage. We were already good friends during school and even studied in the same university. It was during our tertiary education that we discovered our love for each other. We shared many things together; similar interests and aspirations and even the same friends.

The proposal: Andrew popped the question while we were having dinner at the Four Seasons Langkawi. It was one of the sweetest moments and captured the true essence of this wonderful man whom I have known for over 12 years. Someone even commented that it was typical of Andrew – a little clumsy but really sweet and endearing.

The wedding theme: We opted for a green and white colour scheme for our Langkawi wedding that drew its inspiration from the natural setting. In KL, for the dinner banquet, white still dominated but with a touch of matte gold.

The venue: Wedding ceremony at the Four Seasons Langkawi and a banquet at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

The rings: Both rings are from Tiffany & Co.

The wedding gown: Vera Wang bridal gown for the wedding ceremony and a Reem Acra dress at the banquet.

The groom’s suit: Custom-tailored suit for the wedding and an Emporio Armani suit for the dinner banquet.

Moments to treasure: I can still picture our wedding when we exchanged vows in the beautifully manicured lawns of the Four Seasons Langkawi with streamers blowing in the sea breeze. It was truly magical to also have my family and my best friends to share our joy. In KL, I though my evening gown simply looked stunning and I am sure Andrew agrees too!

Chloe & Ricky

The love story: We were both doing our MBA at the Chicago Graduate School of Business in 2004. He was a very sweet guy and just as he was about to leave for Hong Kong, he expressed his feelings for me. But I wasn’t ready yet. So Ricky used to send me little short stories about a guy and a girl that represented us both. Whenever he sensed I was sad, he’d leave little gifts at the reception area of my dorm. These thoughtful actions won me over and finally at Christmas 2004, we became a couple when he came all the way to Chicago from KL.
The proposal: Ricky popped the question in April 2007 at the Inter Continental Hotel that overlooks the Hong Kong Harbour. He brought a bouquet of flowers, a gorgeous D-coloured, slightly over a carat diamond, got down on his knees and asked me to be his wife. I was speechless and tears started streaming down my cheeks. I wasn’t expecting it all!
The wedding theme: I love flowers and I wanted loads of them! We had the florist decorate the ballroom with beautiful arrangements including two tall flower stands at the entrance. The KL event had a red theme going as red represented our love. Our invitation cards were specially made in Hong Kong, while a 5-piece jazz band entertained the guests. In Hong Kong, the red theme continued with touches of pastels as the venue was furnished with timber furniture. The pastels balanced the colour scheme. I personally hand-made 20 block candles to be placed at the cocktail areas.
The venue: Shangri-la Kuala Lumpur and Island Shangri-la Hong Kong.
The rings: TSL Atelier (wedding bands) and a hand picked diamond ring.
The wedding gown: all from My Dream Wedding. At the KL reception, I wore a stunning red qua with dragon / phoenix motifs and matching shoes. I next changed into a white, lacy and beaded wedding gown with a long train. The dramatic gown was the perfect outfit that suited the long walk into the ballroom. The pure white of the dress was furthered enhanced with a bouquet of white flowers in my hands. I also wore three additional evening gowns. In Hong Kong, I chose a bareback, spaghetti strap wedding gown and three evening gowns as well.
The groom’s suit: Custom-made white tuxedo for the KL event and a black tuxedo in Hong Kong.

Moments to treasure: There are simply too many moments but we both agree the planning process was memorable with Ricky being most supportive and accommodating. Also, on the wedding day, the wedding march and later, our dance together were beautiful moments to be treasured forever.

The grand opening of Ever After Wedding

-The Black Parade -
The grand opening of Ever After Wedding,
Malaysia’s leading, trendsetting wedding planner

Petaling Jaya, March 26th 2008. Ever After Wedding, Malaysia’s professional wedding planning and consulting company celebrated its grand opening amidst much pomp and splendour. Strategically located in a highly popular section of Petaling Jaya, Ever After Wedding occupies a spacious corner bungalow lot which houses three main divisions – Wedding Planner (where all your wedding ideas come together), The Bridal Gallery (a showcase of fashion-forward bridal wear) and Chin Photography (a gathering of some of the country’s most talented photographers).

A trendsetting wedding planning company, Ever After Wedding, took a bold step decorating its premises in dramatic black accented with touches of hot pink, regal purple, teal blue and apple green for its grand opening. The interior and exterior of Ever After Wedding was lavishly embellished with ribbons, crystals and attractive paraphernalia according to four wedding themes – “Love Anew”, “L’Amour Est Bleu”, “Indulge In Love” and “Black Romance” – to tie in with the grand theme, “The Black Parade”.

Under the capable hands of expert wedding florist and decorator, sprung a delightful garden of crystals hanging from twigs and branches and a beautiful bridal arch entwined with leaves to blend in with the concept of “Love Anew”. “L’Amour Est Bleu” featured hanging sparkling stones, swirling blue wires and flowers that hinted of a Western influence. Delicate egg shells painted in black and hot pink adorned the table’s centrepiece while jewellery in classic black was used to embellish the theme, “Indulge In Love.” Under the concept, “Black Romance”, guests were greeted by the sight of panel lights swathed in purple organza, ribbon trails and a beautifully decorated wedding cake. Ever After Wedding’s showcase of pre-wedding and actual wedding day videos during the event displayed what their talented team is capable of.

East Chin, manager of Ever After Wedding said, “We would like to thank the management and most importantly our director, Jerad Solomon for having the confidence in us to allow us a free hand in creating “The Black Parade”, a theme that is bold, daring and proves that we are the trendsetters in wedding planning and consultation. Black is the new white, and this is the perfect chance for us to educate our customers on the possibilities of using black for weddings.”

At 5pm, guests strolled in with well wishes and were presented with a goodie bag each. Over 300 people attended the exciting event which created a massive traffic jam as invited guests joined in the festivities while curious onlookers watched from outside. Guests were entertained by a festive lion dance performance before guests of honour, Cleo Tay, ex-television host of 8TV’s Eve’s Diary and current newscaster for Astro AEC, Keith Kee, and Cheng took part in the official ribbon cutting ceremony to declare the place officially open.

In the Entrance, under a beautiful, white canopy lay a sumptuous buffet spread where guests tucked into dinner while indulging in a free flow of wine. The highlight of the evening was a bridal catwalk show featuring an impressive collection from The Bridal Gallery. Six, tall, lanky models sashayed down the 30-foot long, black runway modelling up to 24 bridal creations. Elegant evening dresses and gorgeous wedding gowns in a myriad of colours designed by renowned bridal couturier, provided a feast for the eyes. As a surprise, special guest, Cleo Tay took to the catwalk to model the final design.

Before the night ended, winners of the lucky draw took home prizes sponsored by Hotel Imperial Kuala Lumpur, Prince Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur, Palace of the Golden Horses and Genting Berhad. There were 24 prizes up for grabs including three main prizes. The 3rd prize was a family portrait package redeemable from Ever After Wedding, the 2nd prize, one night’s stay in an executive room at Hotel Imperial Kuala Lumpur and the 1st prize, a ½ day event photography package.

Bobbi’s Top 10 Wedding Makeup Tips

The Bridal Look 11.    Flash photography emphasizes pink tones, so be sure to even out skin with a yellow-toned foundation. Start around the nose and mouth where there’s redness, then blend out to the rest of the face.

2.    Set concealer and foundation with Sheer Finish Loose Powder to make them longer-lasting and to ensure that skin looks matte in pictures.

3.    If your dress has an open neckline, be sure to enhance your neck and chest with a dusting of Bronzing Powder.

4.    Use a water-resistant liner that can withstand tears; try Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner applied with the Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush. If you prefer to line with shadow, make it longer-lasting by applying it with a slightly damp Eye Liner Brush. Finish with a water-resistant mascara like Lash Glamour.

5.    After applying all your eye makeup, finish with a highlighter shade on the browbone to assentuate your eyes. Rub your finger in a light matte shade and pat lightly on the outer corner of the browbone.

6.    For a pretty flush that lasts, use two shades of Blush. First, apply a neutral shade on the apples of cheeks, blending up into the hairline, then downwards to soften. Then apply a brighter shade just on the apples of cheks.

7.    Neutral and pale lip colors look washed out in photographs, so choose a lipstick that’s one to two shades brighter than what you normally wear. Pinks, roses and plums are great choices for brides.

8.    To make Lip Colour last longer, line and fill in lips with Lip Pencil before applying your lipstick.

9.    Carry a touch-up kit with concealer, pressed powder, lipstick or gloss, lip liner, tissues, mints, and a mini sewing kit (for emergency clothing fixed like a dropped hem or popped button.)

10.    Have fun! Pre-Wedding Wellness Tips Eat smart Choose whole grains, fresh greens and fruits, and clean proteins like chicken, fish, and beans. Hydrate Drink lots of water daily to hydrate skin and flush out toxins. Move Your Body Exercise at least three times a week to strengthen your body and calm your mind. Take Relaxing Baths Add soothing Epsom salts or skin-softening powdered milk to your bathwater. Be Present Slow down and appreciate what’s around you rather than rushing to get from start to finish. Wedding Day Touch-Up Tips Pack your purse with concealer, pressed powder, lipstick or gloss, lip liner, tissues, and mints. Sewing kit with prethreaded needless and a pair of tiny fold-up scissors to fix a hem or popped button. Static spray and lint remover to get rid of static cling and lint on clothing. Prewrapped wipes to remove makeup and food stains.

How to find the right wedding dress ?

How to find the right wedding dressYou’re found the right guy. We’ll help you find the right gown!

Brides have the most fun, especially in Malaysia as we are not limited to just one style of wedding dress on our wedding day. Our cultures and religions allow us to wear as many dresses as our ceremony takes us, for instance, opting for a traditional dress for the ceremonial betrothal, a cocktail dress for rehearsals, a white satin princess-cut gown for our civil ceremony and an evening gown for the grand dinner.

While playing dress-up is a lot of fun, finding the right wedding dress can be mind-boggling and stressful. Here are some simple steps to follow when searching for your gown:

● Research international wedding magazines and online wedding sites.
● Be open and adventurous, try as many gowns as you can! On the rack, some wedding gowns
may seem unsuitable or not something you would wear, but it could look absolutely
gorgeous on you.
● if your budget allows it, go to a couturier for a gown especially designed and custom-
made to fit you.
● Know your options well : made-to-measure, buy off the rack, or rent?
● Keep in mind your wedding theme, venue and style.
● Check your timeline. Order your gown at least 6-8 months in advance (up to 12 months) and schedule a fitting two weeks to a month before your wedding.

A simple guide to choosing the right gown for the right body shape :

Tall and Thin
Make the most of your figure as you can go for any style you want! Go for soft, flowy materials, lots of detailing from the waitsline down, or with a satin sash tied elegantly around your waist to enhance your curves.

Slim and Petite
An A-line gown would be perfect for you. To look taller, opt for a higher waist cut or a V cut bodice to accentuate your waistline. Look captivating with an empire-cut gown complemented with flowy, chiffon materials from your bust line.

Full Figure
A V-cut neckline is most flattering. Go for detailing in the bust and neck line while keeping details and cut simple. Know your body and flaunt your best features while cleverly hiding others. A bodice will accentuate your waist and the straight cut hides the tummy. And instead of silky, shiny fabrics, choose soft, matte-coloured ones.

A tip: If you have purchased your wedding gowns some months before the wedding, store them elsewhere as staring at them continuously can make you far less excited.

Flowers – To have and to hold

Wedding reception decorations ideasAs you make your presence at a wedding reception, what usually catches your attention are the music, the ambience and oh those lovely smells of freshly cut blooms! Flowers are an essential element to all weddings as they add galore to the whole occasion. Jasmines and roses are the customary flowers used for weddings here in Malaysia namely because of their fragrance and the colours which compliment the whole theme.

Decorations for wedding receptions consist of greens, buds and blooms and although white colours are usually the norm, pastel shades can be chosen to blend with the other ornaments of the bridal party.

A Handful of tips for that special bridal bouquet

· Your bridal bouquet should compliment your wedding gown. Therefore, if you’re using a simple couture, then you should opt for a more elaborate hand bouquet and vice versa.

· Do opt for local blooms as they’re inexpensive and they come in wide varieties.

· Bear in mind that the wedding flowers you choose depend highly on your personality and the texture of your wedding gown:

· Lilies of the Valley and roses arranged in smaller cascades are best suited for petite brides.

· Calla lilies and orchids make the perfect bridal bouquet for taller brides.

· Camellia and gardenias go very well with satin and brocade wedding dresses.

· Set a budget and discuss with your florist so that the final outcome will be suitable to your finances and requirements. After all, you wouldn’t want to be broke on your wedding day!

Shopping for wedding gowns

Planning to get married? Have you started shopping for your wedding gown? Shopping for wedding gowns is not an activity that you put off to the last minute. For the bride who wants to custom order her wedding dress, most gowns designers take 12 to 24 weeks to fill a special order. The minimum time before your wedding that you should begin shopping for your wedding gowns is 6 to 9 months ahead of time.

When shopping for wedding gowns, if you feel completely out of your depth – find a bridal consultant at a wedding dress shop and put them to work for you. Pick up copies of wedding magazines and flip through them. Look for ideas that you like and ideas that you don’t. Your wedding gowns may look nothing like what is in those wedding magazines, but by going through them and cutting out pictures, you may very well discover what you don’t want – and that’s a great place to start.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t find the wedding gown you like on the first trip. Once you know what your wedding dress is going to be itwill be time to start looking into bridesmaid dresses; once again -take your time and remember, this is your day. If you decide to special order the wedding gowns, be prepared to put down a significant deposit to begin the process. It’s also worth mentioning that special orders are generally non-refundable or returnable so be sure that it’s the dress you want when you make your order.

Hello, beautiful!

Flawless, radiant complexion and a jaw-dropping figure do not happen miraculously and there are certainly no miracle creams to transform your skin and your figure in just a matter of weeks. It takes time, and it starts with your well-being, eating right and doing the right thing.

If you have at least six months before your wedding, you can be on your way to achieving your goals! All you need to do is get little headstart with these tips:

● Set your mind to achieving your goals.
● Exercise and a healthy diet are a must. There are too many fads on losing weight without exercise or eating properly.
● Drink lots of water. It is key to great skin.
● if you get hungry before (or after) mealtimes, snack on fruit and vegetables. The fibre in them will keep you feeling full and eating less.
● Walk everywhere and every chance you get. It is a much easier routine to keep than going to a gym if you don’t have time or a gym membership.
● A fun way to exercise is to take up a dance class! Not only will you lose weight and tone up your body, but you’ll also impress on the dance floor at your wedding.
● Stand up straight. A good posture will enhance your posture and the way you carry your wedding dress.
● Drink some fruit and vegetable juices; stay away from sugared drinks.
● Have your meals on time and set a cut-off time for meals, e.g. stop eating after 7pm!
● Get enough sleep! Your mind and your body regenerate when you are asleep, so when you wake up, you will feel and look fresh and healthy!

So you have agreed to marry him, now what?

So you have agreed to marry him, now what?

Whether you’ve had your fairy-tale wedding planned since you were five, or want to plan a wedding with the latest trends, we’ll keep you calm, focussed and even smiling throughout the process ! Let us show you how to get started :

1. IMAGINE YOUR WEDDING
Before you announce your engagement to the world (and suffer the risk of having everyone assume that they are invited to your wedding), discuss some of most significant details of your nuptials with your partner, such as style, size, day, time, and guest list. These should reflect your tastes as a couple. For inspiration, visit our Who Are You section to get a sense of your bridal style, then browse through the wedding flowers and wedding cakes galleries for the latest in stunning wedding looks.

2. YOUR BUDGET
The fact is, all the wedding glamour and glitter cost money, therefore setting a realistic budget will save you (or your parents) from a nasty shock on your wedding day. So get your calculator out, call your folks, and work out a realistic budget. But set your priorities before you start number crunching! Are having all your guests present more important than having your wedding in an exotic location? Once you know what you cant live without, you will have a much clearer idea on how to allocate your money.

3. YOUR GUEST LIST
Separate your guest list into two categories a must have A list and a would like to include B list. As most of your guests may have a spouse of significant other, an invitation will count for two people. Remember to mail the invitations early !

4. START A SCRAPBOOK
Pictures tell a thousand words. Whether printed from the internet, cut out from wedding magazines or collected from actual weddings, these should inspire you for themes, settings and any accessories you might want to recreate for your own wedding. Your wedding planner may also understand you needs better, making the process easier.

5. CHOOSE A DATE
Choosing your wedding day should be thoughtful. If you are planning an outdoor wedding in Malaysia can be a little tricky, the last thing you want for your beach wedding or a garden reception is bad weather, neither raining nor too hot and humid. Some research on the weather in the wedding venues is a good idea! Do prepare to fork out some extra budget for mist fans and etc to make sure your guest is comfy throughout your wedding.

Also check your city calendar to make sure there isn’t a holiday or a major sporting event on your desired wedding day so that you and your guests do not end up with scarce or more expensive hotel rooms and services. Select two tentative dates it is important to have a back-up in case your first choice isn’t available.

6. CHOOSE YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATION
Botanical gardens, historic buildings or poolside party with food stations : let your imagination run wild when selecting a location. But remember, the best place is one that is accessible and able to accommodate your guest count. You’ll want to find out how many events each location hosts per day, and if there are hidden fees and charges.

7. SELECT YOUR WEDDING PARTY
She’s been your best friend since kindergarten; it’s a no-brainer that she will stand up with you on your big day. But what about everyone else? Ask valued friends and family members to do a reading, be an usher or oversee your guestbook table. The point is, don’t worry! There is a role for everyone and no need for an awkward situation.

8. SHOP FOR THE WEDDING DRESS
Be aware that most bridal houses or designers need at least six months to order or make your wedding dress, so start early! Bring along any printouts from our fashion section to your fitting sessions so that the experts can get a sense of your style and preferences. Remember to bring stockings, shoes, a strapless bra and a hair clip to your appointments! (Now is also a good time to start a fitness programme and get into shape to look your best!)

9. BOOK THE BASICS
Top wedding locations and vendors are booked as early as a year in advance. So, as soon as you have agreed on the date and the type of wedding you want, make your bookings! Reception sites go particularly fast but many will allow you to put a courtesy pencil hold on the date, for two weeks without deposit. Finding your ideal location isn’t easy, so, if a site meets 80% of your requirements, reserve it !

10. SET UP YOUR GIFT REGISTRY
In this shopping frenzy, remember that your guests are going to want to buy gifts for YOU. You will enjoy the convenience of viewing your gift registry and making changes any day or time, and your guests will be thrilled to have one place to find all your gift choices. If we may suggest, you will have loads of fun at www.mychocolatemousse.com. (a gift registry is the way to not end up with endless supplies of cutlery sets, 2 hair dryer or 4 irons)
